Colour Coded Sound with the CEL-620

Casella CEL has developed a colour-coded display system for sound level meters which simplifies their use and reduces the risk of misinterpreting data. Casella CEL has now launched the all new 620 series of pocket sized meters which incorporate the high resolution colour display into the smallest and easiest to use sound level meter on the market.

The Casella CEL-620 series is now the smallest octave band analyser in the world, and probably the strongest too. The colour readout assists the user by displaying results in a simple colour coded format that is impossible to misinterpret. Ease of use has been a key design goal in the development of this instrument, so from simple point and shoot measurements to full industrial hygiene assessments, all measurements can be performed quickly and easily.

This is industrial equipment and was designed with an overmoulded case to give it the strength and durability needed for tough industrial environments. The CEL-620 uses all digital technology that can measure in a range up to 140dB, dismissing the need for range adjustment and eliminating reading errors which may result. Another unique feature is that it measures all occupational noise parameters simultaneously; rather than changing the instrument setup you simply change which noise parameters you wish to view knowing that all parameters can be viewed afterwards even if not selected at the time.

"The CEL-620 really presents the next generation of workplace sound level meters," said Tim Turney, Product Manager for Casella CEL. "A real-time octave band analyser has never been so compact and yet filled with technology designed to make life easier for the health and safety professional."

The CEL-620 is supplied as a kit in a rugged briefcase, which also includes an acoustic calibrator, windshield, software and USB download cable. Both instrument and calibrators come with calibration certificates as standard, documenting compliance with the latest IEC 61672 Sound Level Meter standard.

Casella’s entire service team has been trained at the ISC European headquarters in France, and all maintenance work will now be carried out at the Casella production centre in Bedford, cutting turn-around times for servicing, maintenance and new order deliveries. The company, which announced its ISO 14001 accreditation in January, is celebrating the partnership with a promotion running until the end of the year in which customers purchasing five units will get an additional one free.

Commentating, Casella CEL Product Manager Gary Noakes said “This agreement is a perfect fit which allows us to offer a complete solution for workplace monitoring; for our customers it means a single trusted supplier who already has a track record for fast and reliable maintenance and after sales support.”

Affordable Noise Monitoring - a Sound Investment

Affordable noise monitoring, a sound investment Casella CEL engineers have redefined high quality, affordable noise monitoring. The popular CEL-200 range of sound level meters now has a new member. The new CEL-240 Sound Level Meter is completely innovative to the market, offering technology and ergonomics not seen before for this price. The CEL-240 Sound Level Meter has been launched to meet the need for a low cost yet fully compliant basic sound level meter. It is based on the digital signal processing (DSP) technology recently introduced in the popular CEL-350 dBadge dosimeter and it offers the new user an easy way to make simple noise measurements with the minimum of fuss. The CEL-240 features an instantaneous sound level display and a non-decaying maximum hold on a number of displays showing the A or C frequency weighting with the Slow, Fast or Impulse time response. A large high-resolution display is provided to show the noise levels numerically, on a bar graph or on a time history trace showing the trend in the last 1 or 5 minutes of the measurement. The CEL-240 will be an attractive instrument for those users who need a simple, low cost meter, yet still must ensure they have one that is fully compliant with all the national and international accuracy standards. The new sound level meter has all of the features expected in a simple instrument plus some that are not even found in instruments twice the price. The meter is available on its own or as part of a full measurement kit (CEL-240/K1) with a matching acoustic calibrator and other accessories.

Easy Air Sampling Solutions Finder

Casella CEL has launched an innovative new website, through which users can effortlessly select customised sampling equipment solutions for monitoring a wide range of hazardous substances.

Unlike other reference sites which point users in the direction of lists of component parts, the Casella Air Sampling Solutions website allocates pre-configured product-specific kits that can be ordered directly through the site.

Extremely straightforward to use, Casella’s landmark website takes the guesswork out of equipment selection.

Simply enter the substance for which you have a monitoring requirement, and the site will automatically generate:
  • All substance Toxic Hazard data
  • Links to relevant Sampling methodologies (HSE/NIOSH)
  • Workplace Exposure Limit values (WELs)
  • Sampling kits and any accessories required to undertake sampling

A variety of application-specific sampling kits has also been developed to aid in the selection process.

Gary Noakes, Product Manager at Casella CEL, says: "We are delighted to be introducing this ground-breaking website to the market, which is a great improvement on other reference sites. Casella’s Air Sampling Solutions website serves as both a quick and easy to use reference site and an information source, and is an invaluable timesaving tool for product selection."

Hydro RT for Remote Rainfall Monitoring

A new rainfall monitoring and logging system has been launched by Casella that records rainfall data, river levels and river flow from a single site or a national network of locations, and transmits the data by GSM/GPRS. The system can run autonomously for three years on its internal lithium battery saving the cost and manpower of frequent site visits for downloading and maintenance.

Called the Hydro RT Rainfall Logging System, the product is specifically designed to access rainfall data from remote locations. Data transfer is GSM/GPRS based, and the system can trigger user defined alarms by SMS texts on parameters such as rainfall event and intensity. Additional software is available for larger networks of stations that will forward incoming alarms to mobile phones and email addresses, or automatically interrogate these outstations as required.

The Hydro RT uses a high quality tipping bucket rain gauge housed in a rugged enclosure with sealed connectors. It is designed for durability, reliability and autonomy and is ideal for remote locations where access is difficult and time consuming. Casella Measurement - Leaders In Environmental Evolution!

Casella have now achieved ISO 14001 accreditation, and are the first in its sector to achieve this environmental accolade. Many companies are now demanding that their supply chain partners comply with this standard, so acheiving it has not only improved our environmental impact, helped to reduce waste and costs but has also given us a major competitive edge.

Casella Measurement has been supplying scientific instruments since 1799 and customers have included Dr Livingstone and Charles Darwin. This year Casella Measurement has achieved its own evolutionary triumph and has become the first company participating in the region-wide Business Environmental Training Initiative Plus (BETI+) to achieve ISO 14001 certification.

We are also the first in our sector to achieve environmental recognition under the management systems Standard.

As possibly the oldest company in the UK producing environmental monitoring and measuring equipment, it also made sense for Casella Measurement to be able to demonstrate its own behaviour could be held up to scrutiny.

The fact we managed to go through the whole process from start to finish in just over ten months is also testament to the determination of the whole company to make a statement about our commitment to the environment.

The company’s approach to ISO 14001 is a textbook example of how to get it right.

Having established management commitment, Casella Measurement then went about explaining to its entire staff what the company was trying to achieve and why. Short environmental awareness presentations were carried out for everyone. “People are generally aware of their own environmental impacts – they’re switching off lights and recycling at home. We aimed to make them bring this behaviour into work,” says Mark Thomson (Environmental Officer).

The emphasis on involvement has also paid off in terms of behaviour and cost savings. Following environmental awareness training, the company’s water use went down by a massive 75%. During a recent washroom refit, staff suggestions resulted in fitting infra-red motion sensors and push taps to conserve water and electric hand dryers to reduce waste.

The business case for looking at environmental issues has also become evident in other areas. Re-designing just one set of packaging has yielded financial savings. Removing foam and using card has not just reduced the size of the box by 60%, but also reduced production costs by over 80% per unit and that’s without taking into account the reduction in shipping costs.
